Perfect World Esports officially confirmed that the Shanghai Counter-Strike Major will return in 2027, marking the second time the city will host the highest-level Counter-Strike tournament and one of the world’s most popular esports events.

The Shanghai Major 2027 is scheduled for November and December next year and is expected to bring the world’s top teams back to the city.

Shanghai last hosted a Counter-Strike Major in 2024, where team Spirit defeated FaZe Clan 2-1 to claim the crown and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets won the tournament MVP award. It was also the first time this premier event had been held in Asia.

The Shanghai Major 2024 attracted large crowds and was recognized as one of the year’s leading CS events, drawing more than 70,000 attendees to the offline venue and 600 million online viewers worldwide.

The success of the last Major further highlighted the city's continuous support for its growing esports industry.

Shanghai has stepped up efforts to establish itself as a global esports hub over the past decade. Since 2017, the city has implemented a series of policies to support the development of the esports industry.

Several of the world's top-level tournaments have already landed in the city, including the Dota2 championships The International 2019 (TI9) and The International 2026 (TI15), the 2020 League of Legends World Championships (S10), and the Shanghai Major 2024.
