Under the provisional calendar of events for 2027, the Superbike World Championship, also known as WorldSBK, will come to China for the first time next year, with the season finale scheduled to take place at the Shanghai International Circuit from Oct 29 to 31, 2027.

Founded in 1988, WorldSBK is a major international circuit motorcycle racing championship. Unlike MotoGP, which uses prototype racing machines, WorldSBK features modified production motorcycles, creating a closer connection with motorcycle products, manufacturing technology, and consumers.

The Shanghai round marks China's entry onto the WorldSBK calendar and will further expand the championship's influence in the Asian market. As the final round of the season, it is expected to bring fresh excitement to riders, teams, and fans worldwide.

Shanghai has expanded its portfolio of major international sporting events in recent years, building a diverse racing calendar that includes both automobile and motorcycle competitions. The arrival of WorldSBK will complement existing events such as the F1 Chinese Grand Prix and the FIM Motocross World Championship, further enriching the city's international racing lineup.

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK executive director, said bringing WorldSBK to China for the first time was an important milestone for the championship.

Gu Jiqing, vice-president of Shanghai Jiushi (Group) Co Ltd, said its subsidiary Juss Sports & Entertainment would integrate resources in event operations and venue management to explore the integration of racing events and industry through WorldSBK. The initiative will provide a new platform for Chinese motorcycle brands to compete internationally, showcase their brands, and engage in industry exchanges.
