Cold Dew solar term
Oct 8 marks Cold Dew, or hanlu, the 17th of China's 24 solar terms and the fifth of autumn.
It is the first solar term whose Chinese name contains the character for "cold", reflecting the drop in temperatures as autumn progresses.
Oct 10 is a working day
The National Day holiday ran from Oct 1 to 7. Saturday, Oct 10, is a designated working day under the adjusted holiday schedule.
Rolex Shanghai Masters underway
The 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters runs from Oct 5 to 18 at the Qizhong Tennis Center in Minhang district. Match schedules may be adjusted in the event of extreme heat. Spectators can check venue screens, text messages, or information booths for the latest schedules.

Winter ferry timetable takes effect Oct 8
Shanghai's high-speed ferries are operating on a winter timetable from Oct 8, 2026, to Feb 28, 2027.
The timetable covers five high-speed ferry routes, including Nanmen–Baoyang, Baozhen–Baoyang, and Wusong–Xinhe. Services on other routes remain unchanged.

Note: Around the winter solstice, the last departure on the Nanmen–Baoyang route will be temporarily adjusted due to shorter daylight hours. Changes will be announced in advance. Passengers can call 021-6969-3666 for the latest service information.
Shanghai International Light Festival continues
The third Shanghai International Light Festival runs from Sept 17 to Oct 16, featuring light installations and performances at venues across the city, including parks, waterfronts, historic towns, and commercial areas. Event dates and hours vary by venue.
Dresden boys' choir concert

Where: Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre (上海保利大剧院)
Knabenchor Dresden, a boys' choir from Germany, will perform German and Austrian classical choral works, film soundtracks, and folk songs from around the world, including a specially arranged version of the Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower.
