China's first Nobel Literature-themed bookstore opens in Shanghai
A bookstore reportedly the first in China dedicated to Nobel Prize Literature winners opened at Changfeng Park in Shanghai's Putuo district on Oct 1.
Jointly established by Dayin Bookmall and Shanghai Putuo Construction Investment Co Ltd, the bookstore houses more than 400 titles by 122 Nobel laureates, with Chinese translations displayed alongside foreign-language editions. Readers can unseal copies and read them on site.
With 104 seats in total — 48 indoors and 56 in an outdoor garden — the bookstore blends reading with beautiful park scenery. A free permanent exhibition, A Hundred-Year Starry Sky of the Nobel Prize in Literature, traces cultural links between laureates and China, particularly Shanghai, through figures ranging from Rabindranath Tagore to George Bernard Shaw.
The bookstore is expected to collaborate with nearby East China Normal University on literary talks, writer residencies, and youth writing events.
