A pop-up bookstore has recently been established in Sinan Mansions in downtown Shanghai, captivating book enthusiasts from all corners of the city.

Housed in a century-old Western-style building, the temporary bookstore serves as the focal point for a bookstore festival, slated to run from April 30 to May 4.

The festival has brought together a consortium of over 20 bookstores and publishers, including industry titans like the Juvenile & Children’s Publishing House and SDX Joint Publishing Co (Sanlian Bookhouse). Together, these entities have curated a diverse assortment of books, cultural artifacts, and creative products for visitors to explore.

A secondhand book trading platform has been established on-site, adding a distinctive flair to the event.

In a nod to the symbiotic relationship between coffee and the written word, the festival coincides with a coffee celebration, featuring the participation of nearly 20 renowned coffee brands such as Costa, Oatly, Coplusde, and Miele. This fusion offers visitors a global coffee journey, allowing them to savor a spectrum of brews from around the world in one unified setting.

Beyond the realm of coffee, a bazaar awaits, showcasing a diverse array of offerings, including exquisite ceramics from Macau, French-style embroidery and beaded jewelry, and an assortment of local intangible cultural heritage items.

Attendees can also revel in the melodious tunes of jazz music concerts presented by the illustrious JZ Club, blending literature, art, and music into a harmonious cultural extravaganza.
