Hongkou district unveils top consumption events

Shanghai's Hongkou district is set to enthrall its residents and visitors alike with a series of consumption events from August to October.
The district has announced over 100 cultural, sports, tourism and commercial activities, with 40 key events highlighted. The initiatives aim to boost the local retail market and provide entertainment across various areas.
Must-see events:
- The Hongkou Football Stadium will host 10 major concerts from August to September.
- The 11th International Literary Week will take place at the Peace Library on Aug 13-19, coinciding with the Shanghai Book Fair.
- The 2024 Shanghai Tourism Festival in Hongkou district will run from Sept 15 to Oct 6.
- The North Bund International Music Festival will feature global musicians and artists along the 2-kilometer North Bund waterfront in mid to late October.
Must-play activities:
- The immersive Sherlock Holmes experience presented by Case Lab opens at the 1933 Old Millfun for a six-month exhibition.
- A Peppa Pig 20th Anniversary Party will be held at the Tianai Road Breeze Hall on Aug 3-11.
- The Shanghai-style Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival will be showcased at The Inlet from Sept 2, along with a Mid-Autumn Guochao Market on Sept 15-17. This market will sell domestic brands and products that incorporate Chinese traditional style and culture.
Shopping and dining highlights:
- The North Bund business district will host the Shanghai International Cruise Festival in August and the Shanghai International Light Festival from September to October.
- The historic Zhapu Road will transform into a film-themed food street, featuring eateries like Chun Fang Yuan and Jiang's Old Shanghai Ribs and Rice Cakes.
- The Nanyang Cultural Festival will take place at the CapitaLand Hongkou Plaza from September until the National Day holiday. Nanyang culture refers to the rich and diverse cultural phenomenon that has developed in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Malay Archipelago and surrounding countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Fitness and family fun:
- The inaugural "Life Shines at Vital-Sport" festival – part of the Shanghai Sports Consumption Festival – will continue until Sept 1, offering activities for families and fitness enthusiasts.
- The City Beach Carnival will be held at the North Bund from Aug 10 to Sept 15, featuring various sports competitions and cultural events.
