The familiar electronic melody of Slam Dunk – the popular Japanese sports anime – filled the Yuan Xin Hui shopping mall, located in Shanghai's Fengxian district, as its food and music carnival opened on the evening of Aug 23.

As part of the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, the event ran through Aug 25 and included the In-Tune Music Festival 2.0. Offering free outdoor performances from 6 pm to 9 pm over all three evenings, the festival brought an engaging mix of modern Chinese styles and anime-inspired tunes.

Beyond the music, the festival also boasted a dessert festival and a flea market with nearly 30 creative food brands, including the first-ever Pizza Think from South Korea in Fengxian. The flea market hosted over 30 vendors, including a special workshop that highlights traditional weaving techniques, blending tradition with contemporary fashion.

Since the international consumption season began on July 6, events have been popping up all over the city. Up next is the Full Moon Festival presented by Panlong Tiandi in Qingpu district, running from Sept 6 to 17. With over 90 performances and workshops, plus a large communal dining experience, it's all about celebrating local culture and cuisine. You can book your spot for these activities now through the WeChat mini-program "线上蟠龙".
