City launches third round of dining coupons
Shanghai launched the third round of its Le Pin Shanghai dining coupons at 10 am on Oct 12. The validity period for this round of coupons has been extended from seven to 10 days, allowing consumers to use them until 11:59 pm on Oct 21.
The coupons are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be claimed by anyone whose location is set to Shanghai, including visitors from other cities and expats who complete identity verification through UnionPay, Alipay, or WeChat Pay.
The latest round offers four types of discounts, including a 50 yuan ($7) coupon for a minimum spending of 300 yuan, aiming to stimulate local dining businesses. These businesses have seen significant increases in bookings and customer traffic from the previous rounds of coupon distribution. During the recent National Day holiday, Shanghai's on-site dining consumption reached 8 billion yuan, marking double-digit growth compared to last year.
However, some consumers have reported issues when redeeming their coupons at participating restaurants. Common problems include restaurants not being registered for the coupon program or only accepting certain payment platforms. To avoid these issues, consumers are advised to check the list of participating merchants and ensure location services are enabled on their devices.
The next round of coupons will be released at 10 am on Oct 19, with further details about November's distribution expected soon. Restaurants that meet eligibility criteria but have not yet registered can still apply up until Nov 17.
