The 2024 Dare To Art public art season officially kicked off at HKRI Taikoo Hui on Oct 12 and will run through Nov 10.

The event features a collaboration with Irish new media artist Alan Butler, who has created a large-scale installation titled Optical Earth. This piece digitally reimagines the stunning landscapes of California's Yosemite National Park, offering visitors a unique aesthetic experience.

As patrons stroll through the mall, they can immerse themselves in the evolving natural scenery depicted through intricate line patterns, providing a multi-layered visual journey that celebrates nature's beauty in an urban setting. The installation draws inspiration from Butler's earlier work, Procedural Landscapes for Android (Yosemite National Park v1), which utilized digital technology to present Yosemite's grandeur in three-dimensional simulations.

In addition to Butler's installation, HKRI Taikoo Hui is hosting the Fashion Shanghai Weekend from Oct 12 to 20, featuring various brands and a focus on sustainable fashion. Notable collaborations include H&M partnering with the Chinese contemporary fashion brand GARÇON BY GARÇON for a pop-up showcasing local talent. Other highlights include interactive experiences from brands like Heytea, which combines tea culture with art installations.

The venue also serves as a site for the eighth Jing'an International Sculpture Project, featuring contemporary artist Zhang Yibei's sculpture A Snake's Tail and Body. With various activities planned throughout the month, HKRI Taikoo Hui aims to enhance cultural engagement and retail experiences in the city's West Nanjing Road shopping area.
