Louis Vuitton launches hip pop-up store in Shanghai
French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton has been wowing folks with a hip pop-up event on Julu Road in Shanghai's Jing'an district, which started on Jan 1 and runs to 7.
The pop-up store mixes retail fun with culture and dining — offering visitors a complete experience that celebrates its collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami first teamed up 20 years ago and now they've renewed the iconic partnership with an updated collection of over 200 pieces, capturing the essence of early 2000s pop culture.
The exterior features a 3D Monogram Multicolore pattern, with rotating LV letters and flower motifs that create a dynamic, vibrant effect. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by Murakami's signature smiling sunflowers.
The three-story space showcases items from the new collection — including Monogram Multicolore, Superflat Panda and Superflat Garden designs, with special surprises like stickers and collectible cards.
Louis Vuitton has even brought a mini cinema and a cafe to the event.
The mini cinema is screening two animated short films by Murakami — Superflat Monogram (2003) and Superflat First Love (2009) — both newly restored for the event. They highlight Murakami's creative take on animation, blending his unique style with Louis Vuitton's travel-inspired world.
Inspired by Murakami's Superflat Garden pattern, the cafe offers a cozy atmosphere adorned with smiling sunflowers. Visitors can enjoy custom Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami coffee cups with Superflat Panda patterns and exclusive drinks with any purchase from the collection.
