As Spring Festival draws near, Shanghai's Putuo district is embracing the festive season with a very special blend of commerce, culture and tourism — creating an atmosphere of refined urban charm.

The district's Suzhou Creek 12 Colors cultural tour invites visitors from around the world to explore Chinese traditions, alongside Shanghai's modern allure.

From scenic river cruises connecting dining spots at the 1000 Trees shopping area to immersive cultural experiences, the initiative is said to be establishing Shanghai as a premier destination for inbound tourism.

At the heart of the district's transformation is the Zhenru Unipark Max shopping mall, which opened by the end of 2023 and is regarded as reflecting the emerging consumer trend of "online inspiration, on-site shopping", driving sales through integrated experiences.

Elsewhere, smaller, stylish community spaces — such as the historical Hong Shou Fang — are thriving. This restored Shikumen area has attracted over 10 million visitors since its debut, offering a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern community life.

New attractions along Suzhou Creek include scenic parks, illuminated bridges and themed events like the Suzhou Creek Dining Cruise. This program combines sightseeing, dining and shopping for a seamless consumer journey.

Additionally, landmark exhibitions, such as Sanxingdui — Awakening of Ancient Shu at Global Harbor, running from Jan 25 to April 23, and a pop-up shop celebrating Forbidden City culture are captivating young audiences, by blending traditional heritage with contemporary appeal.
