This spring, the Bund Finance Center, or BFC — located in Shanghai's Huangpu district — has transformed into a dreamy urban garden spanning 100,000 square meters.

What's more, it's launched a series of seasonal experiences, including a limited-time Flower and Bird Market and a LEGO-themed garden.

Running through to the end of April, the BFC Flower and Bird Market brings back the charms of the historic Huacao Bang flower market from over a century ago.

Historical records show that during the mid-Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), a small riverside area near the City God Temple and local government office became a popular trading spot for flowers.

Known as Huacao Bang — Bang in Chinese refers to a small stream or waterway, often used in place names — it eventually grew into a market offering wonderful traditional blossoms. These included wintersweets, camellias, peach blossoms, plum blossoms, osmanthus and peonies.

Adding to the jaunty springtime ambiance, BFC's outdoor plaza features a special installation designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It's a mobile living unit called a "jubako" — jubakos were traditional Japanese tiered boxes used primarily for serving and presenting food.

This livable art garden, surrounded by sustainable lifestyle brands and pet-friendly stalls, offers a relaxing oasis and a chic micro-vacation experience for city dwellers.

Starting April 12, the BFC will also host two flower-themed weekends along Fengjing Road. Local flower studios and eco-friendly farms will create a green, healing space for visitors seeking a taste of the countryside in the heart of the city.

The season's highlight arrives on April 19 with the launch of a giant LEGO Flower Garden, created through the use of items from the LEGO Botanicals series of artificial plants and flowers — that boast spectacular colors and require zero maintenance.

Thousands of LEGO flowers will bloom across the BFC, blending imaginative designs with the vitality of nature. Visitors can explore stunning installations — all celebrating the beauty of spring in creative and playful ways. The LEGO garden will be on display through to June 2.
