Italian luxury fashion house and goods retailer Gucci's exhibition, Gucci Bamboo: Decoding an Icon, is now open at Sunke Villa, in Shanghai's Changning district.

It spotlights the evolution of the iconic Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag first made in that year.

A key event in the 2025 First in Shanghai campaign, the exhibition boasts seven themed rooms, blending heritage with innovation. Highlights include AI-generated bamboo visuals, a deconstructed view of the famous handbag's 428-step creation process and a recreation of the Florence-based Gucci ArtLab.

Other spaces explore the bag's 70-year history, digital reinterpretations of Gucci prints and futuristic AI-generated art. A final area playfully integrates the bamboo handle into vintage gym equipment, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and modern energy.

Visitors can also browse current and rare handbag collections and join a sachet-making workshop (reservation required).

When: 11 am to 8 pm, now to April 20

Where: Sunke Villa, No 60 Panyu Road
