As the 2025 Shanghai Shopping Festival approaches — set to take place from the end of April through June — the Juyuan new area in Shanghai's Jiading district launched its own series of 2025 Shanghai Shopping Festival events on April 19.

The community is inviting locals and tourists alike to shop, play and explore through an exciting blend of great experiences and interactive spending.

This year's festival in Jiading is said to be a joint effort between the local government and businesses, featuring over 14 key events across the retail, dining, automotive and cultural tourism sectors.

"We've gathered resources from over 180 merchants in our mall, with a special focus on dining and retail," said Duan Leijun, general manager of Sunye Shopping Mall.

"There are big discounts — some restaurants are offering up to 40 percent off, including vouchers and special set meals, while fashion products are available at 10 to 40 percent of their original prices," he added.

Other highlights include:

- Suning.com — a leading retail company in China mainly involved in e-commerce and retail sales — which is combining national "old-for-new" subsidies with exclusive in-store deals.

- Daju Neighborhood Center, launching limited-time 8.8 yuan ($1.21) group-buy product offers for experience cards worth thousands of yuan.

- Car deals from brands like BYD and FAW-Volkswagen, featuring generous trade-in subsidies and free camping gear packages.

Adding a cultural twist, the eighth Xiaoqinglong Cultural Market also kicked off as part of the festivities.

Locally developed, the market is said to celebrate Jiading's culture through handicrafts, food stalls, creative products and interactive zones such as intangible heritage workshops and tech-driven experiences.

The market also features a secondhand swap section, live music under blooming wisterias and even a romantic dating event, offering singles a relaxed way to meet new people.

"This shopping festival deeply integrates Jiading's cultural and tourism resources," said Zhang Yuting, deputy secretary of the Party working committee of the Juyuan new area.

"By combining seasonal events, themed promotions and creative experiences, we aim to energize local consumption and create a more vibrant community life," Zhang added.
