Jing'an Fashion Culture Week debuts at Zhangyuan
The First Jing'an Fashion Culture Week recently opened at Zhangyuan — a historical and cultural block in Shanghai's Jing'an district.
Running through June 21, the two-week celebration will activate major shopping areas and art institutions in the district — uniting leading fashion brands, industry associations and creative agencies from around the world.
The opening ceremony at Zhangyuan set the tone with two striking runway presentations centered on the theme of "Past • Present • Future".
The audience was captivated by the exquisite craftsmanship and rich cultural symbolism embedded in the qipao designs.
These highlighted not only the enduring elegance of traditional Chinese attire, but also its seamless fusion with modern aesthetics — embodying a distinctly Eastern interpretation of contemporary fashion.
The event also welcomed a number of popular Chinese designers, whose collections combined local cultural motifs with global design language — reflecting the rising confidence and creativity of China's fashion scene on the world stage.
A particular highlight was a special show featuring bold, imaginative works by students from Donghua University, presented alongside sustainable and tech-forward designs by established industry figures.
Throughout the two weeks, the second floor of the W6 area at Zhangyuan will host a zone where fashion retail merges with contemporary art.
Guests can explore interactive exhibitions, discover the latest fashion trends and shop curated collections — all within a unified experience that redefines the future of fashion consumption.
Highlights include:
- Chinese designer label Hamcus unveiling a new collaborative collection in an avant-garde retail space.
- Disney China's "House of Mouse" party, offering a playful and immersive reimagining of classic characters.
- The Hong Kong Palace Museum presenting its first-ever exhibition outside Hong Kong — City Rhythms: Chinese Traditional Culture Reinterpreted — from June 20 to July 31, exploring the cultural synergies between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
