Pudong hosts first ACGN carnival at L+ Mall shopping center
Pudong New Area held its first ACGN (Anime, Comics, Games, and Novels) carnival, "It's Goods", which opened on Aug 1 at L+ Mall in Lujiazui.
One highlight is the debut of Mancool, a popular brand in the ACGN community, which is hosting its first-ever pop-up store in Pudong. The store features more than 140 officially licensed products from about 10 novels, Japanese anime, and game franchises.
Leading anime company Aniplex is also presenting an exclusive exhibition of its latest production, Fate/Strange Fake. Fans can dive into the world of Sultan's Game, a card-based simulation and narrative experience inspired by One Thousand and One Nights. This themed space is brought to life by Comiplus, a well-known ACGN store based in Yangpu district.
Running from Aug 1 to 10, the carnival features four main attractions at L+ Mall: a "pain car" parade, pop-up shops, markets, and stage performances.
A "pain car", or itasha in Japanese, is a vehicle decorated with large images of characters from anime, manga, or video games. On the outdoor plaza, eight pain cars showcase bold designs featuring the virtual idol Hatsune Miku, Asuka Langley Sohryu from Evangelion, and characters from the game Genshin Impact, promising to captivate visitors.
The carnival also spreads across multiple shopping centers in Pudong, hosting dozens of themed events. Highlights include an immersive Sony movie exhibition at Global Harbor and the Zsiga Take It Slow art installation exhibition at Century Link Mall.
