Shopping vouchers, late-night hours return to Nanjing Road
Shanghai's iconic Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street will once again launch its annual year-end celebration, running from Dec 30 to Jan 3.
Now in its fourth year, the event has become a signature fixture on the city's year-end calendar, bringing together shopping, dining, culture, and night-time entertainment along one of Shanghai's most vibrant shopping areas.
A key highlight of this year's program is the return of shopping vouchers, supported by expanded digital access. Consumers can purchase vouchers via Douyin by visiting the platform's group-buying page and searching for "Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street" (Chinese: 南京路步行街).
Two voucher packages will be available:
- 800 yuan ($114.14) worth of vouchers for 550 yuan, with 10,800 packages released
- 300 yuan worth of vouchers for 200 yuan, with 10,000 packages released
Voucher sales open at 10 am on Dec 30. The vouchers can be used from Dec 31 through Jan 3 at a wide range of retail, dining, and lifestyle stores along the pedestrian street.
Offline offers will also be available on Dec 31, with Alipay shopping vouchers distributed on site starting at 9:30 am. These vouchers, offering a discount of 300 yuan on a minimum spend of 800 yuan, can be used at New World City and New World Daimaru Department Store from 10 am until the malls' official closing time on the same day. A total of 1,000 vouchers will be issued, evenly split between the two malls.
On Dec 31, Nanjing Road's popular "open past midnight" tradition returns with an expanded lineup. More than 30 stores will extend their business hours into the early hours of the new year, creating a lively late-night shopping and leisure atmosphere.
Participating venues range from time-honored Shanghai brands such as Sunya, Tai Kang Foods, Zhen Lao Da Fang, and Shen Da Cheng, to trend-driven retail destinations including the Huawei flagship store, TOPTOY, and MINISO's global flagship store, as well as cultural attractions such as Madame Tussauds Shanghai.
Adding a cultural touch to the year-end celebrations, Nanjing Road has once again partnered with the Shanghai Museum to introduce festive cartoon horse installations. Featuring warm yellow and vibrant red tones inspired by traditional ingot motifs, the displays blend New Year symbolism with playful design, offering both visual appeal and cultural resonance.
