Hongkou district invites expats to experience Chinese language and culture

Hongkou district in Shanghai will host the "Experience Chinese in Hongkou" event for foreign experts, aimed at fostering deeper cross-cultural exchange and providing a unique opportunity to explore the city's rich heritage.

Time: Every Sunday, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm and 3 pm – 4:30 pm

Faculty profiles:

1. Chinese language instructor

Zhang Yicheng, a lecturer at Shanghai International Studies University, specializes in International Chinese Language Education. His courses include intensive Chinese, Chinese reading, writing, characters, and business Chinese. Zhang was formerly a Chinese language volunteer in Dunkirk, France, and as an international Chinese instructor at Columbia University in the United States.

2. Herbal sachet instructor

Gao Qing is a pioneer among Shanghai's young intangible cultural heritage talents, a practitioner of Hongkou district's traditional incense-making craftsmanship and a member of the Shanghai ICH Association. She excels in herbal incense blending, including the creation of incense beads and pendants.

3. Chinese jewelry-making instructor

Zheng Lianbo is a "Master of Arts & Crafts" in Shanghai and a fifth-generation practitioner of traditional gold and jade inlay techniques. He is a senior artist, technician, and recipient of the Shanghai "Chief Technician" Government Fund Award, as well as one of the first "Hongkou Craftsmen".
