A special salon gathering was recently held at the T20 Tower in Shanghai's Xujiahui area to preview the Shanghai Night Festival 2025.

The event reflected on the success of the previous year's festival, shared best practice and unveiled preliminary plans for the upcoming year.

Key stakeholders in Shanghai's night economy were invited to present case studies and showcase their projects. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities facing the night economy, with particular emphasis on integrating business, tourism, culture and sports.

During the 2024 festival, over 200 events took place across 16 districts, drawing more than 6 million visitors.

According to data from the Big Data Laboratory of Consumer Market, the value of evening retail shopping from June 1 to Sept 30 hit 185.2 billion yuan ($25.47 billion), a 12.19 percent on 2023.

Night spending accounted for 26.7 percent of total consumption, marking a rise of 1.8 percentage points compared with the previous year. As such, Shanghai's night economy index remains the highest in the country.

Set to run from June to September 2025, the Shanghai Night Festival will introduce more diverse content and settings, aiming to create a model for integrating external consumers with innovative business, tourism and cultural events.

It's expected that the festival will further fuel the high-quality development of Shanghai's night economy.
