Shanghai Port sees growth in rail-sea intermodal transport
The Shanghai Port Sea-rail Combined Transport Company handled 97,910 twenty-foot equivalent units at Luchaogang Central Station — the Pudong Railway terminal in Shanghai Port — in March, marking a new monthly record.
In the first quarter of the year, the company processed a total of 244,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of over 30 percent.
The shift from road transport to rail and waterways is playing a key role in reducing overall logistics costs in China. The company has been expanding its service network, which now spans over 40 cities in nine provinces.
A new intermodal freight train departed from Huai'an in Jiangsu province on April 1, marking the launch of the daily service between Huai'an Port and Shanghai Port via the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge.
