As China expands visa-free access, international visitors are flocking to Shanghai with homegrown Chinese brands high on their shopping lists. Moving beyond traditional souvenirs, global travelers are opting for homegrown designer fashion, Chinese fragrances, and trendy collectibles that showcase distinctive Chinese aesthetics.
In the first five months of 2026, Shanghai recorded 1.92 billion yuan ($284.7 million) in sales of tax-refund-eligible goods.
