Shanghai completed its first outbound Transports Internationaux Routiers road transport shipment on May 23, as a container carrying three pre-owned electric vehicles departed for Minsk, Belarus.

Chen Yan, general manager of Qianru Trading (Shanghai) Co — the exporter, said that the Shanghai Railway Station Customs provided thorough guidance, which ensured everything went smoothly.

China officially implemented the TIR Convention in May 2018, aiming to simplify international transport procedures, cut waiting times, and reduce logistics costs.

The system allows for a one-time customs declaration and uninterrupted transport across borders. Strict carrier qualifications and customs guarantees also help ensure secure and reliable operations.

Last March, Shanghai handled its first inbound TIR shipment under the supervision of Shanghai Railway Station Customs.

To support the growing use of TIR transport, Shanghai Railway Station Customs has offered full assistance to participating companies.

So far, Shanghai Railway Station Customs has overseen three TIR shipments with a total cargo value of 1.114 million yuan ($154,900).
