Marintec China 2025, widely regarded as a barometer of the global maritime industry, will take place from Dec 2 to 5 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

This year's edition will cover 110,000 square meters and host more than 2,200 exhibitors from around the world, marking a new record in scale. In addition to an expanded cruise exhibition area, the event will also debut the Energytec Zone, a new section focused on future energy.

More than 16 countries and regions will participate as national and regional delegations, while companies from dozens of countries and regions will exhibit independently.

Halls W1–W7 will house leading Chinese participants, including China COSCO Shipping Corporation and China State Shipbuilding Corporation, while halls N1–N4 will feature international companies such as Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

As the global maritime sector accelerates toward sustainability, ships powered by alternative fuels have emerged as a key trend in newbuild markets. Reflecting this shift, Marintec China will place a strong emphasis on green and sustainable development.

The newly launched Energytec zone will focus on alternative fuels and supply chain support, hosting a series of thematic seminars. Together with the world-renowned Senior Maritime Forum, it will provide a strategic, multi-dimensional platform for dialogue and cooperation.

Founded in 1981, Marintec China has been held biennially in Shanghai during odd-numbered years, and has successfully staged 21 editions to date.

Shanghai is advancing its digital, intelligent, and green transformation as part of its ambition to build an international shipping hub. From January to September, Shanghai Port supplied 563,000 cubic meters of LNG fuel to international vessels, up 71.8 percent year-on-year, as well as 7,013 metric tons of green methanol.

Building on this momentum, Shanghai has outlined a roadmap to accelerate the green transformation of maritime fuels used in international shipping. Under the plan, the city aims to establish a green maritime fuel supply system by 2030, serving both domestic and international markets.

By that time, the bonded liquefied natural gas bunkering capacity at Shanghai Port is projected to reach 1 million cubic meters, while bunkering capacities for green methanol and ammonia are expected to hit 1 million metric tons. A preliminary framework for a green fuel bunkering center for international shipping will also take shape.
