Shanghai Port and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port have recently launched a coordinated system for sharing real-time vessel berthing and departure data.

The sharing mechanism is designed to break down cross-regional data barriers between the two ports and enhance overall port operation efficiency in the broader Yangtze River Delta region.

As the two largest ports in China by container throughput, Shanghai Port and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang province are only about 100 kilometers apart.

Built on a distributed data collaboration chain for multimodal transportation along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the mechanism allows direct data exchange between the two ports.

With access to timely information on vessel movements, terminals in the two ports can allocate berth resources more effectively and optimize loading and unloading operations.

Cargo owners and freight forwarders can plan container pick-up, cargo consolidation, and shipping schedules with greater accuracy.

Meanwhile, vessels benefit from reduced idle waiting times, lowering overall logistics costs.

Looking ahead, Shanghai and Zhejiang province plan to expand the cooperation framework into areas such as maritime supervision and meteorological alerts, offering enterprises more integrated and higher-quality supply chain services.
