Shanghai's effort to build an international cruise tourism resort got a major boost on March 9 as the popular retail brand Maple Leaf Village Outlets decided to make inroads into the waterfront shopping area of Baoshan district.

According to the deal, Maple Leaf Village Outlets will operate the China Duty Free Harbour City commercial project in Baoshan district, which is expected to expand the range of onshore retail experiences available to cruise passengers and is viewed as a major step forward in the development of the Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort.

Spring Bamboo Group, the owner of Maple Leaf Village, cited Baoshan’s waterfront location and the potential of its cruise industry as factors behind its decision to expand its business there.

The project aims to transform the area into a comprehensive destination offering duty-free shopping, restaurants, entertainment, cultural events, and family-oriented activities.

China Duty Free Harbour City, or CDF Harbour City, is a joint venture between Shanghai International Port Group and China Duty Free Group.

CDF Harbour City is expected to complement nearby attractions such as Shanghai Sea World and the Long Beach commercial complex, offering cruise tourists shopping, waterfront views, diverse dining options, and accommodation.
