The Chinese Bridge summer camp – co-hosted by Donghua University and the Confucius Institute at Leipzig University in Germany – wrapped up on course and in style in mid-August.

For a fortnight of fun and cultural and linguistic enrichment, 25 students from prestigious universities in Germany and Austria gathered at Donghua University.

They not only honed their Chinese language skills but also immersed themselves in local communities, in the process forging great friendships with Chinese university students.

Engaging in a variety of activities, the students delved into Chinese history and the vibrant modern fashion scene in Shanghai. Guided by professional designers, they applied design thinking to create inspirational posters that showcased their unique personal styles.

Their journey took them from the bustling metropolis of Shanghai to the serene classical gardens of Suzhou city in East China’s Jiangsu province, offering a vivid contrast that highlighted China's profound history and rich cultural heritage.

Traditional clothing lectures, visits to textiles and clothing museums and incense workshops enabled them to appreciate the tranquility and beauty inherent in traditional Chinese culture.

As the camp drew to a close, coinciding with the opening of the Olympics, a friendly table tennis match was organized between Chinese and international students – further strengthening the bonds of friendship.
