Course schedule
1. Introduction to the Chinese zodiac
Explore the cultural significance of the Chinese zodiac in this engaging session designed for participants of all backgrounds.
Participants will delve into the legendary story of the Jade Emperor’s Great Race, learn the order of the 12 zodiac animals, and understand their connections to earthly branches and traditional timekeeping. The course also highlights the zodiac’s influence on Chinese festivals, customs, and daily life.
Interactive discussions will invite participants to share their insights and questions. By the end of the session, learners will have a solid understanding of Chinese zodiac culture.
2. Paper-cutting workshop
Discover the intricate beauty of Chinese paper-cutting in this hands-on workshop.
Participants will trace the origins of this traditional art from the Han Dynasty (206 BC–AD 220) to its modern-day forms. The session introduces the cultural meanings behind common patterns, regional variations in style, and the tools and materials used — such as scissors, knives, red paper, and specialty craft paper.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants will create their own paper-cut artworks. No prior experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
