The stylish and evocative Aroma Garden area — originally a private garden built during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and located in today's Huangpu district — is rapidly transforming into one of Shanghai's most dynamic commercial and cultural hubs.

The area, which retains its signature Shanghai charm, is distinguished by beautifully restored Shikumen buildings — traditional stone-gated homes that seamlessly blend Chinese and Western architectural elements.

Surrounding these historic structures are high-end fashion boutiques, luxury hotels and jewelry stores — making Aroma Garden a compelling destination for both domestic and international visitors.

It also plays a key role in the Shanghai International Jewelry Fashion Functional Zone, a major initiative by Huangpu district aimed at turning the area into a global hub for high-end jewelry.

The district plans to attract prestigious jewelry houses, independent designers and trendsetting labels, with the goal of establishing itself as a flagship destination for luxury shopping in China.

Among the new arrivals is internationally acclaimed brand Vera Wang, which has opened a boutique in the area — drawing attention with its elegant storefront and curated designer collections.

Visitor numbers have already surged, especially with the arrival of spring, which brings an added buzz to the neighborhood. Iconic heritage buildings are now adorned with colorful blooms and the picturesque streets have become a popular backdrop for both tourists and locals.

Nearby, the Jingyuan Aroma Garden Hotel — hailed as the most luxurious boutique hotel in Laochengxiang, the oldest residential area in Huangpu — offers refined Paris-inspired views, further elevating the area's allure.

As Aroma Garden continues to grow, it's set to welcome more fashion and jewelry brands, cementing its place as a premier destination for luxury shopping and cultural exploration.

Future plans include a curated mix of high-end jewelry boutiques, bespoke fashion labels, fine dining establishments and cultural events such as art exhibitions and themed markets.
