Intl students explore Jiangsu’s Maritime Silk Road legacy
From May 30 to June 1, nearly 40 international students from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Shanghai embarked on a field trip to Nantong and Suzhou in Jiangsu province. This journey allowed them to learn about the historical development of the Maritime Silk Road, traditional Chinese culture, economic exchanges, and foreign trade.

The Nantong Museum is the earliest public museum in China. Here, the students had a chance to appreciate the city's history and natural landscape, along with its distinctive industries in agriculture, textiles, and ceramics.
At the Nantong Blue Calico Museum, the first official blue calico museum in China, the students learned about the origins and development of blue calico. They also participated in a hands-on blue calico workshop, experiencing the allure of this national intangible cultural heritage.
In Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, the students toured the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone Exhibition Hall and the Zhangjiagang port terminal. The port, known for its convenient facilities and extensive cargo handling experience, is highly favored by overseas enterprises. The students observed the transportation process of heavy equipment at the port, gaining a deep appreciation for Zhangjiagang Port's critical role in the Belt and Road Initiative.

In Suzhou, the students visited the Suzhou Museum. This museum, inspired by traditional Suzhou-style architecture, is set among courtyards, leaving the students in awe. The museum's extensive collection of art pieces and artifacts vividly displays Suzhou's rich history and culture. Following this, the students explored Pingjiang Road, a historical and cultural street, where they further discovered the ancient charm of Suzhou and gained deeper insights into its history and traditions.
