Students share New Year cultures at East China Normal University
The Global Education Center at East China Normal University recently held a Chinese Corner event, attracting international students dressed in New Year-themed attire.
The event began with a bilingual film that provided an in-depth look into the origins and customs of Spring Festival.
A highlight of the event was the presentations by students from Germany, Russia, Spain, and Kazakhstan. They introduced their countries' New Year traditions, sharing unique customs and taboos.
A Spanish student shared the tradition of eating 12 grapes during the New Year's Eve countdown, while a German student described the practice of pouring lead.
The event continued with an exciting Bingo game, which tested students' knowledge of Chinese and their ability to quick thinking. Following the game, students learned to sing Chinese New Year songs and exchange New Year greetings, filling the classroom with laughter and joy.
The celebration concluded with a gift exchange, where students drew numbers to receive prepared presents. Each gift not only conveyed New Year blessings but also symbolized the precious friendships formed among the participants.
