Kazakhstan student goes on cultural exploration of China
Lisa Konrat, a biotechnology major from Kazakhstan —studying at Fudan University in Shanghai — recently experienced her first Chinese New Year in China.
She spent her winter break in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, where she embraced unforgettable traditional customs. She explored Shenzhen's landmarks, enjoyed the sea views at Dameisha Beach, and witnessed dazzling light shows.
As a passionate photographer, Konrat participated in "China's Echoes", a competition organized by the International Student Office at Fudan University. She captured an image of blooming magnolias on campus with the moon glowing in the background, symbolizing China's natural beauty.
Although she is not professional, she found joy in expressing her perspective through the lens.
Studying at Fudan has been both challenging and rewarding, said Konrat. With classes taught in Chinese, she has had to push herself beyond her comfort zone.
She appreciates the hands-on approach to learning biotechnology and the motivation and ambition of her peers. Her passion for science stems from her early interests in robotics and biology, which led her to biotechnology. The rigorous academic environment keeps her engaged and excited about future research opportunities.
Konrat says her time in China has deepened her appreciation for the country's diversity and hospitality. Each trip reveals something fresh and her love for China continues to grow.
Fudan, in particular, has provided a welcoming and supportive environment that has further enriched her experience. She looks forward to new challenges, including participating in rowing competitions, while continuing her academic journey.
