Discover Lin-gang's smart, scenic, youthful lifestyle: Highlights from 2025 seed future program
International students fell in love with the harmony of nature, technology and opportunity in Lin-gang Special Area during the Seed Future Lin-gang program.
From June 14 to 15, more than 30 international students from universities including Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, and Shanghai University of Political Science and Law came together to explore this coastal area on a two-day tour themed "Seaside Resort".
During their stay at an international talent apartment, many were impressed by its unique blend of ecology and human-centered design. "The lake flows just beneath my window, and young people jog or cycle along the rainbow path toward Dishui Lake," said Shaizada Moldir from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. "It feels like I'm living in a nature documentary!"
"The facilities are new and high-tech, and you can enjoy a healthy, balanced lifestyle without going far from home," Naumović Milica from Shanghai University of Political Science and Law said. "Lin-gang integrates smart home concepts with the relaxing aesthetics of nature. It's a place that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who stays there."
The event was more than just sightseeing. It provided valuable insights into Lin-gang's policies and future plans designed to attract international talent. Azzam Mohammed Al-Baydhani from Harbin Institute of Technology said: "The policy explanations were clear and helpful, especially the flexible employment and permanent residence policies. It makes me feel more confident about staying here after graduation."
Leigh, a British teacher at a Lin-gang international school, explained: "Compared to Shenzhen, where the cost of living is high and the city feels crowded, Lin-gang offers reasonable prices and a more relaxed lifestyle. It's a wonderful place to build a future."
Other students were excited by the high-tech future displayed at Dishui Lake's AI Innovation Hub. Maria de Armas Alvarez from Tongji University called it "a window into the future".
During a fireworks show over Dishui Lake, Adrian from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics described it as "the best gift Lin-gang could offer its people — a free weekend show for everyone to enjoy".
At the China Maritime Museum, Abdulrahman Saed A Alqurashi from Shanghai University of Political Science and Law was fascinated by its rich collection. "Lin-gang not only embraces the ocean but also works to connect with the world."
During a roundtable discussion, students put forward ideas to make the city more vibrant and smarter, including hosting an international arts festival by Dishui Lake, and developing more low-carbon, technology-assisted transport. "It would attract environmentally conscious talent from all over the world." Pedro Rodriguez Jimenez from Tongji University suggested.
The Seed Future Lin-gang program aims to empower international students to become advocates for the city, sharing its opportunities and lifestyle with a global audience. The two-day tour not only deepened their understanding of Lin-gang but also fostered a sense of belonging — a key first step toward making it a home for future innovators worldwide.
