International students from Tongji University experienced the creative power of AI firsthand during an immersive workshop hosted by Tencent and the university's International Students Office on July 22.

The event gathered 48 students from 26 countries, including Germany, the United States, and India. Centered on the theme "AI-generated 3D worlds", participants engaged in interactive demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and discussions centered around the Tencent Hunyuan model.

Experts from Tencent guided the students through the model's core capabilities, showcasing how text prompts can generate real-time 3D scenes. Participants then had the opportunity to create their own designs, transforming written descriptions into vivid virtual environments.

A highlight of the day was a visit to the Hunyuan Lab, where students tested an AI-powered flight simulator that responded to voice commands, adjusting cockpit settings, weather, and flight routes on the spot.

Thai student Chatthanan Puncharat from the College of Design and Innovation created a jewelry design by combining Chinese blue-and-white porcelain motifs with Thai-style gold pendants. "The AI captured both the peacock lotus patterns and gemstone texture," she said. "This experience showed me how AI can be a bridge between cultures, not just a tool."

German student Wu Johnny Jun Jie from the School of Economics and Management was especially impressed by the model's real-time, multi-modal generation. "Seeing 3D scenes form instantly from just a few words was mind-blowing," he said. "It really proves how far generative AI has come."
