International students explore Chinese cultural diversity in Shanghai
The summer study tour program, themed "Experiencing Diverse China 2025", concluded on Aug 8 at East China Normal University, marking the end of a memorable month for 114 students from 21 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Italy, and Japan.
The program offered immersive cultural workshops, allowing participants to try their hand at fan painting, tai chi, and making dough figurines. These activities gave students a glimpse into China's cultural heritage.
Thoroughly impressed by these experiences, the students carefully packed their crafts to bring home as cherished memories of their time in China.
The cultural exploration extended beyond campus with visits to Shanghai's iconic landmarks, including the art-filled lanes of Tianzifang, the historic pavilions of Yuyuan Garden, the Bund's buildings, and the Wukang Building.
A visit to Ant Group's headquarters revealed how China's financial technology innovations are bringing convenience to everyday life and shaping the future.
The program also featured a four-day expedition to Henan province, where students explored traditional heritage sites such as the White Horse Temple, Shaolin Temple, and Yuntai Mountain. Culinary adventures introduced them to the unique and abundant flavors of central China. Many were captivated by the kung fu demonstrations, and expressed a desire to carry this Chinese art back home.
Another highlight was the Midsummer Night's Dream lawn concert, where students transformed the campus into a global village. Amid music and laughter, they bridged language differences and celebrated youth and cross-cultural friendship in a lively display of unity and creativity.
