Shanghai Theatre Academy International College welcomed 47 new students for the autumn semester.

This diverse group comes from 15 countries, including Russia, Turkiye, France, Colombia, the United States, and Ghana.

To help the newcomers settle into campus life and form new connections, the International College organized a series of orientation activities on Sept 28.

Before the event began, students signed their names on thematic posters to commemorate their first moments at STA. An instant photo booth also drew long lines as students captured their first snapshots with new friends.

The event opened with an online lecture. Students learned about their legal rights and interests in China, safety precautions, and campus security. The session strengthened students' legal awareness and sense of safety, providing a secure foundation for their academic journey.

Following the lecture, a lively welcome session unfolded. Mariia Rodina and Karpova Ekaterina from Russia opened with a heartfelt rendition of the classic folk song Katyusha, soon joined by a chorus of fellow students. They then performed a traditional Russian dance, inviting others to join and share in the festive atmosphere.

The students also showcased their talent and learned about Mid-Autumn Festival — a traditional Chinese celebration symbolizing family reunion and gratitude — through classic Chinese poems.

The orientation also featured icebreaker games and incentive-based activities. Students practiced Chinese phrases to the beat of the pellet drums and joined games such as blindfolded cup stacking, musical chairs, and the straw blowing challenge.

The "Collect Stamps, Redeem Gifts" system added excitement, awarding participants with stamps after each performance and game, which could later be exchanged for souvenirs.

As the event drew to a close, students received Shanghai-themed postcards, on which they wrote down their aspirations for learning at STA and their heartfelt wishes. The International College will mail these postcards, sending their cherished memories from Shanghai to their homes around the world.
