The International Cultural Exchange School at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics welcomed its 2025 cohort of international students with a gala titled "Youth Express, Dreams Set Sail" on the evening of Oct 12. More than 200 students worldwide gathered for a vibrant kickoff to university life.

The gala took the form of a symbolic train journey, with stops including "Friendship Station", "Courage Station" and "SUFE Station". Students entertained the audience with an array of performances ranging from band acts and solo songs to dances and magic shows.

The evening began with the Torrent band, a multinational group composed of students from Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, and other countries, performing two songs that fused rock and roll with country music. Performances continued with students from Italy and Egypt, bringing pop, jazz, rap, and retro styles to the stage.

Dance and magic performances also stood out as highlights. A joint performance by students and faculty, What is Love, and the mind-reading show Enigma by the SUFE P.C.M. Magic Club captivated the audience.

The gala emphasized interaction and engagement with four rounds of lucky draws. Photo zones decorated with slogans like "I Miss You at SUFE" and the SUFE mascot drew students eager to capture memorable moments. During intermission, students shared stories of their hometowns, cultures, and experiences as new arrivals.

The event was organized by the International Student Union, a team of students from multiple countries. They worked across language and cultural differences, coordinating planning, rehearsals, and decorations to deliver a seamless and vibrant gala.

Morishita Hideyo from Japan, executive president of the union, said every detail of their work reflected unity, mutual support, and collective effort. He added that the team hoped the event would help new students feel SUFE's inclusiveness and enthusiasm, and encourage them to express themselves with confidence.
