International students explore ancient town in Shanghai
A group of international students from Donghua University, including participants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, Kenya, and Ethiopia, visited Fengjing Ancient Town in Shanghai's Jinshan district on Oct 15 for an immersive cultural exploration.
The students strolled along the bluestone-paved paths and visited museums on art and wedding customs. They saw small bridges spanning flowing streams, white walls topped with black tiles, and well-preserved traditional architecture. These sights offered them a glimpse into the historical landscape and cultural legacy of the water town.
The journey included a Jinshan farmer painting session, where students used brushes to engage with this distinctive folk art under the guidance of instructors. They also sampled intangible cultural heritage snacks like zhuangyuangao, a sticky rice pastry, gaining a deeper appreciation of local food culture while tasting the region's culinary traditions.
The visit not only gave students an opportunity to experience authentic folk traditions but also provided them with a cross-cultural platform to explore and appreciate the richness of Chinese traditions.
