Doan Phuong Thao from Vietnam, who earned her master's degree from East China Normal University in 2011, has returned to pursue a doctorate in International Chinese Education.

She began her master's program in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in 2008 and started her PhD studies in 2024. Even after 17 years, she still clearly remembers the curiosity and excitement she felt at the start of her academic journey and the joy of meeting new friends.

Reflecting on her four seasons on campus, she shared vivid memories.

In spring, the grounds were covered in pink cherry blossoms that inspired her to explore and learn with all her heart.

Summer drew her to the lotus pond, where she would sit by the water at night, studying amid the fresh scent of blooming flowers.

In autumn, the plane tree leaves turned golden, and she often strolled along the leafy paths, immersing herself in the harmonious blend of campus life and natural beauty.

In winter, the frost-covered Liwa River offered quiet reflection, reminding her that her academic journey required patience, persistence, and dedication.

At ECNU, Doan not only gained academic knowledge but also absorbed invaluable life philosophies.

Classroom discussions enriched her perspective and deepened her passion for the Chinese language and culture, while supportive professors encouraged her to explore topics more deeply.

She expressed gratitude for the support from her academic advisors, whose guidance provided a sense of belonging and motivation.

Beyond the classroom, extracurricular activities taught her teamwork and responsibility.

She forged lasting friendships with classmates from around the world, navigating challenges together and encouraging one another.

Returning to this familiar campus, Doan carries with her both love and gratitude for ECNU.

This new chapter signifies not only further academic achievement but also a renewed commitment to her own growth.

As a Chinese language teacher, she is dedicated to promoting the essence of Chinese culture. ECNU has given her a solid academic foundation and taught her to embrace cultural diversity with an open mind.

Looking ahead, she hopes to bring these experiences into her own classroom, inspiring students to appreciate the beauty of the Chinese language and the richness of Chinese culture.
