Xuhui expands tax-refund services as foreign tourism rises
As visa-free entry policies draw more international visitors to China, the Wukang Road-Anfu Road area and IAPM Mall in Xuhui district have become popular stops for tourists exploring Shanghai.
To enhance the shopping experience for overseas travelers, Xuhui is upgrading its tax-refund services to provide greater convenience and efficiency across key retail hubs.
Over 40 Stores at IAPM Now Support "Refund Upon Purchase"
IAPM Mall, a major retail landmark on Huaihai Road, launched a centralized counter for the refund-upon-purchase service at the end of September. The counter enables shoppers to complete tax-refund procedures immediately after buying eligible goods.
At present, more than 40 stores in the mall offer tax-refund services, covering fashion, beauty, skincare, and premium accessories. After shopping, visitors can go directly to the Level 1 counter to claim their refund in cash or have it credited to their payment card.
Tax-Refund Coverage Expands in the Wukang-Anfu Neighborhood
The Wukang Road-Anfu Road area, renowned for its historic streetscape and independent retail scene, continues to expand its list of participating tax-free stores.
Harmay's two branches at No 322 Anfu Road and No 55 Wukang Road were among the first in Xuhui to adopt the refund-upon-purchase service this year, allowing customers to complete refund procedures immediately after purchase.
Other popular retailers in the area have also joined the city's tax-refund program, including:
- Adidas Originals (No 322 Anfu Road), housed in the renovated former Yongle Palace;
- Suitsupply (No 169 Anfu Road), offering tailored menswear in a three-story heritage villa;
- Le Labo x Gathering (No 135 Wukang Road), a concept store showcasing handcrafted fragrances in a blended East-West design setting.
Visitors may also choose to claim their refunds at airport counters by presenting tax-refund forms and receipts.
Tip:
Shoppers are advised to check with in-store staff whether their purchases can be processed at any of Shanghai's tax refund counters, which accept refund-upon-purchase claims from eligible retailers across the city.
