The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism has recommended 12 distinctly-themed city walk routes that allow locals and tourists to capture delightful views of natural scenery and local landmarks!

Known as the "Root of Shanghai," Songjiang district boasts both a rich cultural heritage and breathtaking surroundings. From cultural creativity and historical streets to flavorful cuisine and the tranquility of literary pursuits, Songjiang offers a unique blend of traditional charm and creative energy.

Embark on a city walk through Songjiang, where the echoes of the past harmonize with the innovations of the present, to experience a delightful blend of history, culture, and ingenuity at every turn.

Route Highlights:

Yunjian Grain Warehouse Cultural and Creative Park → Dacang Bridge Area → Thames Town → Central Park → Sijing Ancient Town

1. Yunjian Grain Warehouse Cultural and Creative Park

The Yunjian Grain Warehouse used to feature old factories and barns that were built between the 1950s and 1990s, however, it has now transformed into a new landmark for cultural creativity in Songjiang district. This park features art spaces, theaters, sports facilities, retail shops, trendy dining options, and boutique hotels. One of the most distinctive landmarks in the park is the large art installation "Guardians of the Rice Fields", which features eye-catching astronauts walking through the fields.

2. Dacang Bridge Area

The Cangcheng Historical Zone along West Zhongshan Road (from Yushu Road to Yongfeng Road) spans 700 meters and represents Songjiang's core historical preservation area. With its well-preserved ancient buildings and rich historical significance, this area showcases Songjiang's commercial and cultural development history as a transportation hub during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). Strolling through the Dacang Bridge Area allows you to trace history in a leisurely manner.

3. Thames Town

Located in the heart of Songjiang's new urban area, Thames Town covers a total area of 500,000 square meters. With its winding stone paths, exquisite sculptures, and Britain-style residences, churches, and castles, Thames Town seamlessly integrates Shanghai's globally-influenced aesthetics, becoming a shining emblem of Songjiang.

4. Central Park

Central Park is a large open green space featuring lush grass, flowing streams, undulating slopes, and shady trees. The park offers amenities such as running tracks, waterfront paths, tree-lined avenues, and walking trails, catering to various preferences and styles.

5. Sijing Ancient Town

With a history dating back thousands of years, Sijing Ancient Town can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368). In March 2023, Sijing Ancient Town officially opened to the public. This ancient town exudes a timeless charm with its distinctive Jiangnan water town features, ancient architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), and unique history.
