Sci-fi enthusiasts can enter the world of The Three-Body Problem: Beyond Gravity, based on a popular Chinese novel series, through a large-scale immersive experience theatre.

The project combines immersive performances, new media interactive art, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence and extended reality technologies. It is located on the 7th floor of AI Plaza in Xuhui district, Shanghai, covering an area of 3,400 square metres and featuring various spaceship scenes and interactive digital arts.

The story is adapted from a segment of Death's End, the final instalment of the trilogy by Liu Cixin, China's most acclaimed sci-fi writer. Participants will play crew members on the "Gravity" spaceship and join the final strategic decision that will determine the fate of human civilisation.

Liu Cixin said he hoped that the project would transform the novels' text into a realistic scene that can be intuitively felt, letting visitors feel the charm and shock of sci-fi and imagination. He said he was most looking forward to the experience of the four-dimensional space.

The project also features 16 actors who will perform and interact with the participants for 2 hours during each show. The participants can follow different actors to experience different storylines.

Many internal testers praised the project for its strong sci-fi atmosphere and multi-line interactive experience and were impressed by the space capsules, the space elevator and the props. They said the project was suitable for multiple visits, as each storyline offered a different perspective and experience.

The Three-Body novel series, which depicts the contact and conflict between human beings and an alien civilisation, has won numerous awards and fans both at home and abroad.
