High-end coffee culture booms in Jing'an district
In the bustling Jing'an district, coffee has become an important social currency among the city's youth – symbolizing a rich blend of luxury and lifestyle.
The West Nanjing Road shopping area, known for its vibrant commercial atmosphere, is home to more than 2,000 international brands, of which more than 70 percent are globally recognized names.
Recently, many high-end brands have ventured into the coffee business, transforming their stores into trendy social hotspots.
In mid-July, Japanese jewelry brand Mikimoto opened its first coffee shop at Zhang Yuan (Zhang's Garden) for a limited 10-day period from July 13 to 23, sparking a social media frenzy.
The cafe featured Mikimoto's signature M Signature design, offering exquisite dishes and specialty coffees alongside displays of unique pearl jewelry, creating a multisensory experience.
The choice of Zhang Yuan was strategic; the area has a rich historical background that resonates with Mikimoto's century-old heritage.
A brand representative expressed the intention to connect with young consumers through the culture surrounding coffee – enhancing Mikimoto's lifestyle experiences and attracting new customers.

Mikimoto is not alone in this trend. Earlier this year, Gucci opened a pop-up space in Zhang Yuan, showcasing its Spring/Summer 2024 collection and collaborating with Blue Bottle Coffee to create a unique latte.
The initiative generated significant buzz, with consumers eagerly sharing their experiences online.
In addition, Zegna opened its first Zegna Caffe in the nearby HKRI Taikoo Hui retail development, focusing on authentic Italian cuisine and sustainable practices.
Customers praised the cafe for its luxurious ambiance and quality offerings, reinforcing the idea that these high-end coffee shops are more than just places to grab a drink; they are lifestyle experiences that appeal to a younger demographic seeking sophistication and social engagement.
