The western section of Zhangyuan — an historical and cultural block on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai's Jing'an district — has become home to 30 high-profile flagship stores, with more than 80 percent of the commercial spaces already leased in the wake of its late 2022 reopening.

In addition to the upscale stores, Zhangyuan has partnered with international brands to host over 160 premium events — including product launches and fashion shows — both at its venue and the limited-time pedestrian street on North Maoming Road. The daily visitor count now tops 30,000, with peak traffic reaching up to 80,000 people on occasion.

One of its standout features is a venue called the YUAN LINK experience space, developed in collaboration with France's Louis Vuitton Group.

It has hosted a range of cross-industry events, such as Italian luxury fashion brand Brunello Cucinelli's A Oriente night and BVLGARI's Serpenti Infinito exhibition for the Year of the Snake.

Brands at Zhangyuan are said to be creatively integrating the area's cultural and historical heritage into their commercial strategies, as they design innovative spaces, launch limited-edition products and host trendsetting events.

Moreover, these efforts are understood to have significantly boosted the area's competitive edge.

In recent years, Jing'an district has been actively positioning itself as a key demonstration area for Shanghai's goal of becoming an international consumption center.

To cater to international brands and meet the rising demand for high-end, tax-free goods at Zhangyuan, a dedicated bonded warehouse has been introduced, offering specialized bonded storage and exhibition services.

"Zhangyuan's dedicated bonded warehouse is the first of its kind in Shanghai, located within a cultural heritage building in a prime commercial district," said a representative from the Shanghai Jing'an Real Estate Group.

"This warehouse employs advanced 'bonded plus' services for high-end consumer goods, setting a new benchmark for smart customs supervision," the representative added.

Since its launch, Zhangyuan's bonded business has partnered with several international luxury brands in jewelry, crystal and textiles.

The warehouse offers efficient transportation, secure storage and professional customs clearance services — reducing operational costs while providing consumers with a seamless shopping experience.
