Ball & Chain launches new eco-bag collection in Shanghai
Japanese eco-friendly fashion brand Ball & Chain launched its new product line in China on May 11, with an exclusive release at Jiuguang Department Store in Shanghai's Jing'an district.
The collection included newly designed round bags and pen case-style pouches, along with the return of popular classics such as the Snoopy-themed limited editions — drawing strong interest from shoppers throughout the day.
Founded by designer Hideaki Mihara in 2020, Ball & Chain aims to reduce the use of traditional plastic shopping bags by offering stylish, functional and sustainable alternatives.
The bags are made from lightweight, durable nylon that is washable, stain-resistant and colorfast. Their bold, embroidered designs and vibrant colors are said to give the bags a fashionable and expressive edge, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers.
Combining creativity with practicality, the bags come in various sizes and strap styles to meet diverse lifestyle needs. The brand's frequent collaborations with designers and artists further enhance its visual identity — blending fashion, functionality and eco-awareness.
Earlier this year, Ball & Chain opened its first flagship store in Shanghai at Jiuguang Department Store's second floor, currently the city's most comprehensive outlet for the brand's offerings.
A store representative said several items sold out within hours of the May 11 product line launch, boosted in part by Jing'an district's ongoing shopping coupon campaign, which has driven up foot traffic.
