Shanghai's Pudong New Area has revealed its ambitious development plan, aimed at establishing five major corridors and developing eight specific areas during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period. The broader vision includes creating a new city center and three sub-centers by 2035.

Central to Pudong's objectives is the creation of an essential east-west development corridor, connecting key areas such as Lujiazui, Huamu, Zhangjiang, Chuansha, the Eastern Hub, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the upcoming Shanghai East Railway Station, and Nanhui New Town, home to the Lin-gang Special Area. These areas collectively showcase Shanghai's urban landscape and core functions as a global city.

Moreover, the district will introduce the "Colorful Riverside" initiative, designed to enrich its urban appeal by extending the riverside landscape and vitality into the city's heartland. An innovation corridor will also be established to propel the district into a leading science and technology hub.

Additionally, Pudong aims to foster diverse urban vitality along the Middle Ring Road and establish a coastal strategic coordination corridor to facilitate the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and the eastern coastal belt of China.

Over the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Pudong will focus on developing eight distinct areas, each with a unique goal, such as creating high-quality living, working, and studying environments, fostering scientific and technological prowess, and undergoing comprehensive upgrades.

Looking ahead to 2035, Pudong intends to establish the "World Expo-Qiantan" city center, and add three sub-centers in Zhangjiang, Jinqiao, and Chuansha, forming an extensive network of regional and community centers.
