The 2025 Spring Festival travel rush plan for 10 high-speed railway stations in Shanghai has been unveiled.

During the 40-day travel rush period, over 16 million passenger trips are expected, averaging more than a record 400,000 trips daily — an increase of 13 percent year-on-year.

Shanghai has 10 railway stations in total. Among them are four large stations: Shanghai Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Station, Shanghai South Station, and Shanghai Songjiang Station. The other six, smaller stations include Shanghai West Station, Nanxiangbei Station, Antingxi Station, Antingbei Station, Jinshanbei Station, and Liantang Station.

The travel rush begins on Jan 14 and runs to Feb 22, influenced by a combination of visitors, migrant workers and family visits. The peak travel period is expected to take place on Jan 26, with over 700,000 passenger trips predicted.

During the travel season, Shanghai's railway stations are set to add 221 pairs of trains heading in various directions, including to Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station plans to add 130.5 pairs of trains.

The stations will increase capacity by coupling multiple high-speed trains and attaching extra cars to regular-speed passenger trains to ensure the smooth flow of passengers.

Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station has two waiting areas, the South Zone and the North Zone. Passengers should confirm their waiting area in advance.

For passengers requiring transfers between the North and South zones, it's recommended that they allow 20-25 minutes for a smooth transfer when purchasing tickets.
