Shanghai Maritime Rescue Center saves 1,521 people in 2024

The Shanghai Maritime Rescue Center or SMRC announced impressive results for its 2024 operations during a water rescue work conference held on Feb 18.
The center successfully handled 761 offshore emergency cases, rescuing 1,521 individuals with a success rate of 97.38 percent.
In addition, it responded to 281 inland water-related incidents, saving 142 people and achieving a success rate of 95.8 percent.
The conference highlighted the center's commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring waterway safety.
Officials emphasized the importance of continuous improvements being made in rescue operations, particularly in the face of growing maritime and inland water traffic.
Looking ahead, the SMRC unveiled ambitious plans to expand its capabilities.
These include establishing additional branches of the search and rescue center, to improve response time and coverage. The center also aims to prevent major waterway safety risks by boosting monitoring systems and enhancing coordination with authorities.
To further extend its rescue capabilities, it will focus on advanced training for its emergency response teams.
