Shanghai Happy Valley to debut Asia's 1st stand-up roller coaster
Shanghai Happy Valley will introduce Asia's first stand-up roller coaster as part of an ambitious eight-year renovation plan.
The upgrade will involve a total investment of 2.6 billion yuan (about $360 million), with construction set to begin later this year.
The new ride is expected to open to the public in 2027, according to Hu Wei, the park's general manager.
It will follow the design of the world’s first stand-up roller coaster, launched at SeaWorld Orlando in 2023.
As the first of its kind in Asia, the ride is poised to break regional records in multiple categories, including track length and vertical drop height, providing thrill-seekers with an entirely new experience.
Opened in 2009, Shanghai Happy Valley was one of the first major theme parks developed domestically in the city.
Over the past 16 years, the park has undergone four rounds of upgrades, with its signature roller coasters consistently ranking among its most popular attractions.
The latest round of improvements will introduce cutting-edge equipment and incorporate more Chinese cultural elements into the park's design and programming, aiming to enhance its entertainment and cultural appeal.
