Yangshan Port sets new container throughput record

Yangshan Port, a key deep-water hub in Shanghai, handled more than 14.02 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers in the first half of 2025, setting a new record with a 7.3 percent year-on-year increase, according to data from the Shanghai International Port Group.
Over the same period, the port accommodated 4,620 international container vessels, up 4.6 percent year-on-year, according to the Yangshan Maritime Safety Administration.
Among them were 704 ultra-large container ships with capacities exceeding 18,000 TEUs, marking a 1 percent increase.
The port also played a vital role in domestic shipping, with 8,803 feeder vessel arrivals and departures, a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.
The continued growth in both feeder and mother vessel traffic highlights the port’s strategic importance within regional and global trade networks.
