Shanghai backs launch of China Fusion Energy
China Fusion Energy was established in Shanghai on July 22, marking a step forward in China's long-term pursuit of fusion energy as a strategic energy solution.
As a tier-two subsidiary under the China National Nuclear Corporation, China Fusion Energy will serve as a national innovation platform focused on overall system design, technical verification, and digital R&D. It will also build platforms for technological innovation and investment operations.
During the launch ceremony, China Fusion Energy signed a series of agreements with institutional partners and shareholders.
Shanghai has prioritized the development of fusion-related industries, with a strong focus on breakthroughs in critical technologies — such as high-temperature superconductors — and fostering high-level R&D talent.
The city aims to deepen collaboration through the formation of a national fusion energy innovation alliance, accelerate the development of a complete industry chain, and build an innovation ecosystem, positioning Shanghai as a globally influential hub for nuclear fusion energy.
